China Launches Trial Runs of Homegrown McWiLL Technology
January 19, 2007
The Chinese government is implementing a trial run of its homegrown McWiLL (Multicarrier Wireless internet Local Loop) standard, a rival WiMAX technology which incorporates SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) technology for voice transmission and IP networks for data transmission. The trial runs have been taking place in several Chinese cities, including Guangzhou and Qingdao. McWiLL, which covers a range of 20 to 60 kilometers, will operate in the 400MHz band. The Chinese government expects to start services based on the technology before the Beijing 2008 Olympics kicks off.
